508 Parachute Infantry Regiment
The 508 PIR jumped into Normandy on June 6, 1944, and portions of the unit remained in contact with German forces until relieved on July 7, 1944. The 508's initial strength on D-Day was 2,056 paratroopers. It suffered 1,061 casualties- 307 of those were deaths.
